LCD screens, as an important component widely used in various electronic devices, are influenced by various factors in terms of price, with material costs accounting for a considerable proportion.
Below, I will provide you with a detailed introduction to the key materials that affect the price of LCD screens.

1. Glass substrate: This is the basic material for making LCD displays, and its quality directly affects the display effect and product reliability.
A high-quality glass substrate can ensure high color reproduction and uniform brightness of the display, while also improving the service life of the product.
Therefore, high-quality glass substrates are expensive, which in turn affects the overall price of LCD displays.

2. Liquid crystal materials: Liquid crystal materials are the core of image display, and different liquid crystal materials have different response speeds, viewing angle characteristics, and temperature adaptability.
For example, IPS (In Plane Switching) liquid crystals have the characteristics of wide viewing angle and high color accuracy, but the cost is relatively high.
Although TN (Twisted Neural) liquid crystals have lower costs, their perspective and color performance are not as good as IPS.
Therefore, choosing the type of liquid crystal material is also a key factor affecting the final product price.

3. Backlight source: LCD displays rely on a backlight system to emit light, and common backlight sources include LED and CCFL.
LED backlight sources have gradually become mainstream due to their advantages such as low power consumption, small size, and long lifespan, but their manufacturing costs are also relatively high.
In contrast, traditional CCFL backlight sources, although inexpensive, have high power consumption, large volume, and contain harmful substances such as mercury, gradually being phased out.

4. Driver IC and controller: These electronic components are responsible for controlling every pixel on the LCD screen to ensure accurate display of the image.
With the improvement of resolution, the requirements for driving ICs and controllers are also increasing, which not only increases technical difficulty but also increases costs.
Especially for high-resolution displays such as 4K and 8K, high-precision driver ICs are essential, which makes the price of such displays even more expensive.

5. Polarizers: LCD screens require two layers of polarizers to filter and adjust light, in order to display clear images.
High quality polarizers can provide better visual effects, reduce eye fatigue, and have a longer lifespan.
However, the cost of high-performance polarizers is naturally higher.

6. Touch screen layer: For LCD screens with touch function, the touch screen layer is an undeniable cost component.
The cost may vary depending on different touch technologies, such as resistive, capacitive, etc.
Capacitive touch screens have become mainstream in the market due to their high sensitivity and multi touch function, but their manufacturing process is relatively complex and the cost is correspondingly high.

The material factors that affect the price of LCD screens mainly include glass substrates, LCD materials, backlight sources, driver ICs and controllers, polarizers, and touch screen layers.
The selection of each material is directly related to the display effect and cost of the final product.
Understanding the characteristics and prices of these key materials when purchasing can help us make wiser choices.
